INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT ENTERPRISES (1985-87)
As Director of Operations, identified, developed and documented Third World small business development opportunities. Recruited staff, developed workplans and budgets, prepared progress and financial reports. Provided technical and management support to field staff. Managed international program, and accounted for funds received and disbursed.

SOLAR ENTERPRISES / SEI (1978-85)
Founded small company to manufacture and market solar micro-pumps for Third World irrigation applications. As Managing Director, raised venture capita, provided design parameters for product development, and launched marketing effort leading to sale of over 200 systems in 25 countries. Later, as solar advisor to Shell International Petroleum Corporation, performed surveys of photo-voltaics markets worldwide; installed and monitored demonstration solar pump irrigation systems in Pakistan and the Philippines.

WORLD BANK
Senior Technical Specialist - Groundwater Development (1974-78)
Provided advice and technical support to all Regional Projects Departments on problems of ground-water occurrence and development. Led and/or participated in project preparation, appraisal, and supervision missions to India, Nepal, Thailand, Philippines, Yugoslavia, Egypt, Libya, Portugal, Ghana and Mauritius.

Senior Projects Officer in Bangladesh (1972-74)
Supervised preparation and implementation of projects in all sectors of economy. Developed monitoring and reporting system for all projects (total costs > $300 million). Worked with executing agencies to identify and test innovative, socially and economically appropriate technologies for groundwater development and irrigation.

Water Resources Engineer / Economist (1969-71)
Appraised and supervised major irrigation projects in East and West Pakistan; developed data-processing techniques for land and water development planning and appraisal. Supervised Harvard University group preparing mathematical models, and other consultants working on various aspects of irrigation and flood control. Principal analyst and author of 9-volume IBRD Sector Study which outlined Bangladesh's options in the area of Land & Water Development and provided much of the rationale for Bank lending in this sector over next decade.

LITTON INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
Director Infrastructure Projects, Greece (1967-69) Responsible for staff of local and expatriate professionals and consultants developing computer-based planning procedures for the development of irrigation and highway systems, exercising technical review function in these areas and preparing studies to support loan applications to international financing agencies. Also responsible for reviewing and reporting on adequacy of other infrastructure including airports, harbours, and power.

HARZA ENGINEERING COMPANY, Chicago, Illinois. (1966-67)
As Section Head, Indus Basin Division, evaluated reports by other consulting firms, selected alternative development plans for analysis, and generated new planning techniques for land and water resources development in West Pakistan.

UNICONSULT INC, Lafayette, California (1964-66)
(Concurrent with work towards Ph.D.) Developed procedures and prepared manual on estimating storm water runoff for design of bridges and culverts for Southern Pacific Railroad. Developed procedures for computation of crop water requirements and evaluation of effects of annual flooding on crop yields. Designed irrigation systems for Iran and Ivory Coast.

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, Davis (1963-64)
(Concurrent with work towards M.Sc). As Teaching Assistant, prepared all lectures for an undergraduate irrigation course and, as Instructor, trained Peace Corps Volunteers in irrigation principles and practices.

JAMES F. McLAREN LTD,Toronto, Ontario (1962-63)
Associate Project Engineer on design, preparation of specifications and cost estimates of flood control works. Later, Resident Engineer on construction of major channelization project, Humber River, Toronto, and supervision of exploration drilling on sites of proposed dams.

HUMPHRIES & RALSTON, Blantyre, Nyasaland (now Malawi). (1959-61)
Resident Engineer and sole representative in Nyasaland. Conducted soil and topographic surveys, then laid out and supervised construction of urban highway network. Administered local office and represented firm to clients, contractors and local agencies.

GREEN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, Calgary, Alberta. (1958-59)
Project Engineer on highway construction in Northern Alberta. Executed time and cost studies, did layout and survey work, interpreted specifications, and prepared monthly payment certificates. Later responsible, as Foreman and Expediter, for 20-30 pieces of heavy earthmoving equipment constructing oil-field roads and drilling sites.

ALLISON & STACEY LTD Chingola, N. Rhodesia (now Zambia). (1953-54)
General Foreman. Supervised building of small earth dams and low-cost housing.
